The 2022 Road Safety World Series went underway on September 10 with a high-octane clash between India Legends and South Africa Legends. A pantheon of legendary cricketers from both sides took centerstage at Kanpur, including the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh and Jonty Rhodes.

Herschelle Gibbs is a notable absentee from the tournament and the former Proteas opener recently blamed BCCI President Sourav Ganguly for his absence.

Gibbs says Sourav Ganguly did not allow him to play in the Road Safety Series

Replying to a fan on Twitter, Gibbs said that BCCI President Sourav Ganguly barred him from playing Road Safety Series because he participated in the rebel Kashmir Premier League.

The former South African opener participated in the Pakistan-based league last year. The tournament has received several objections from BCCI as well as from the Indian government.

2022 Road Safety World Series updates

The ongoing Road Safety World Series is the second edition of the T20 competition. New Zealand Legends are the new entrants this year, joining teams from England, Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, West Indies and hosts India in the tournament.

The series commenced from September 10 and will conclude with the final on October 1 in Raipur. India Legends, under the leadership of all-time great Sachin Tendulkar, are the defending champions, having defeated Sri Lanka in a tense final last year.
