Hasan Ali, who played his last white-ball game for Pakistan more than a year ago, received a surprise return call to the squad for the upcoming 2023 World Cup in India. The speedster was named in Pakistan’s 18-player line-up in place of young Naseem Shah, who continues to recover from his injury.

A seemingly jubilant Hasan Ali recently expressed his excitement on X (formerly Twitter) as he braces himself for a return to the Pakistan side for the mega event.

Mere hours after Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) unveiled their squad for the 2023 World Cup, surprise entry Hasan Ali took to X and expressed his excitement over his return. He vowed to give his best for the country at the tournament, and thanked his fans for supporting him during his time away from the national side. He wrote:

“It's an indescribable feeling to be able to play the World Cup for my country. InshAllah I will give my absolute best for Pakistan. Please remember me and our team in your prayers. Also a big thanks to my fans for always supporting me. #PakistanZindabad."

Hasan Ali made his ODI debut for Pakistan in 2016, and featured in team’s Champions Trophy title win the following year as the leading wicket-taker of his side. So far, he has played 60 ODIs and has accumulated 91 wickets at an impressive average of 30.36.

At the 2023 World Cup, he will helm Pakistan’s fast bowling attack alongside the likes of Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf. Here is a look at Pakistan’s entire 15-player squad, alongside three travelling reserves for the tournament:
