Team India secured a thrilling victory against Afghanistan in a super over, completing a clean sweep in the three-match T20 series at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, on Wednesday, January 17.

Afghanistan, labelled as the underdogs, gave Team India a run for their money by equalling the 212-run score in the allotted 20 overs, emulating India's performance in the first innings.

The intense battle extended as they also tied the Super over. Advancing to the second super over, Team India managed 11 runs, losing two wickets. In reply, Afghanistan was all-out for just one run, courtsey Ravi Bishnoi's magical deliveries.

While Rohit Sharma stole the spotlight with his breathtaking knock, one can’t overlook the unsung hero, Gulbadin Naib from Afghanistan, who went toe-to-toe with Team India's star bowling, standing tall and grabbing all the attention from the Afghan camp.

With Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran laying the foundation, Gulbadin Naib took charge amid wickets falling. Showing resilience, he stood tall, delivering an unbeaten 55 from 23 balls to bring the game to an exciting tie.

Gulbadin's innings was lit, featuring four boundaries and four massive sixes. Notably, this is his second back-to-back half-century, with the first one coming in the second T20I against India at Indore when the rest of the batters fell short.

A Special Request for Gulbadin Naib

Naib's batting brilliance in Asian conditions was evident, yet it's surprising he went unsold in the IPL 2024 auction held in December. Reacting to this, Indian all-rounder R Ashwin, thoroughly impressed, had a special request to make.

Here's what R Ashwin said after witnessing Naib’s storm in Chinnaswamy: "Gulbadin Naib says “notice me please, will you”?? I am a finisher from Asia with a base price of 50 L . Fantastic batting to get this game to a super over."

With teams having secured their slots and spent their budgets, there's a slim chance for a player like Gulbadin Naib to step in as a replacement if someone gets injured. His base price in the IPL 2024 auction was a modest INR 50 Lakh.
