Former Indian cricketer and part of 1983 World Cup Winning Indian Team, Kirti Azad revealed that captain Rohit Sharma has made it clear to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that Virat Kohli is indispensable for the T20 World Cup 2024.

This announcement comes amid swirling rumors about Kohli's possible exclusion from the team, following a report by the Telegraph suggesting the selection committee's consideration of younger, more aggressive players for the squad.

Rohit Sharma, under whose captaincy India will contest in the T20 World Cup 2024, slated to start on June 2 in the West Indies and the USA, has expressed a firm stance.

According to Azad, Sharma has communicated to BCCI secretary Jay Shah the absolute necessity of having Kohli in the team. Azad, taking to his X account, stated, "Rohit said we need Virat Kohli at any cost. Virat Kohli will play the T20 World Cup, and its official announcement will be made before the team selection."

Virat Kohli, a batting legend with an exemplary record, has been out of the T20 scene actively since the disappointing performance of the Indian team at the T20 World Cup 2024. Despite this, the partnership between Kohli and Sharma has been pivotal in scripting many of India's cricketing triumphs over the last decade.

Kohli's return to T20I cricket was marked earlier this year during a series against Afghanistan, showcasing his undiminished skills & passion for the game.

With 117 T20I matches under his belt and an astonishing average of 51.8, Kohli's experience and mentorship are deemed invaluable, especially in the high-stakes environment of the World Cup. The anticipation of Kohli's participation is expected to boost the morale and energy of the young Indian squad.

As the cricketing community awaits the official word, The upcoming IPL season, where Kohli will be seen in action for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, remains a key precursor to his World Cup journey.
