In a recent development ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has released South African all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius.

Dwaine Pretorius exits CSK squad as team prepares for IPL 2024

The decision comes after Pretorius, who was acquired for ₹50 lakh in the 2023 auction, participated in only one match for CSK, failing to take any wickets with an economy rate of 7.00.

Pretorius took to Instagram to express his gratitude towards the franchise, reflecting on his brief but 'EPIC' journey with the team.

"I would like to thank all the management, coaches, players, and fans for my time at CSK; it was an awesome experience. I learnt so much," he shared in his heartfelt post.

CSK's move to release Pretorius aligns with their strategic planning, considering the presence of Shivam Dube, who effectively fulfills the role of a fast-bowling all-rounder. Additionally, the team has a robust lineup of all-rounders, reinforcing the rationale behind their decision.

Meanwhile, the defending champions are set to partake in the players' mini-auction scheduled for December 19 in Dubai. With a near-complete squad, CSK's focus will be on fine-tuning their team composition, aiming to secure an unprecedented IPL record with another title win.

The franchise, under the leadership of MS Dhoni, rebounded from their 2022 performance, clinching their fifth IPL trophy in 2023 and matching Mumbai Indians' record for the most title victories.

Regarding Dhoni's future with CSK, concerns have arisen due to his knee condition, which troubled him throughout the 2023 season and led to surgery. Recent sightings of Dhoni limping during a visit to his ancestral village in Uttarakhand have sparked worries among fans. However, with the IPL still months away, there is ample time for Dhoni to recover and potentially return to the field, much to the anticipation of Chennai's avid supporters.
