Bhojpuri commentators sparked controversy with their commentary during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 23 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

During the second-to-last over of Sunrisers Hyderabad's chase, Heinrich Klaasen smashed Mitchell Starc, Kolkata Knight Riders' highest-priced acquisition, for a towering six over mid-wicket.

The Bhojpuri commentators praised Klaasen's power hitting. However, their description of the shot did not sit well with fans, leading to criticism and calls for their removal from the commentary panel.

One fan even labelled the commentators as "monsters" and demanded to remove them from the commentary panel. In the tweet, the fan mentioned Bhojpuri actors Ravi Kishan and Manoj Tiwari, along with the BCCI secretary, Jay Shah.

“Hey @ravikishann @ManojTiwariMP @JayShah will you going to sack these monsters as they are degrading our language in such a vulgur way.. These bastard commentators don't know Bhojpuri at all... Shame on them.”

In the end, it was the Knight Riders who claimed victory by a slender margin of 4 runs in the City of Joy. Although Klaasen's magnificent 63-run innings off 29 balls, featuring 8 sixes, dazzled the crowd, it wasn't enough to take his side over the finish line. Despite a valiant effort, the Sunrisers fell short by 19 runs in the final over.
