Ben Stokes suggests soft signal's eradication after England's loss

Rilee Rossouw swatted away England with his breathtaking 96*, helping the Proteas level the three-match series 1-1 with a 58-run victory last night.

However, the South African southpaw would have found himself disconcerting when his innings almost ended on 37 runs. Rossouw edged a Chris Jordan delivery straight to wicket-keeper Jos Buttler, who claimed a catch. Although the umpires adjudged it not-out, Buttler opted for a review.

The third umpire signalled the on-field umpires to retain their call as Rossouw smashed 59 more runs after the reprieve and took his side to a match-winning total of 207.

So can we get rid of the soft signal now: Stokes

As it transpired, Stokes took to his Twitter account and suggested to get rid of the 'soft signal', citing that the third-umpire made the decision yesterday without the use of it.

"I thought I had it. But the people who matter disagreed. It's frustrating to have lost and we are trying and working hard to be more consistent, but we've not managed to string our best games together," said the English white-ball captain.

If a third-umpire considers the soft-signal, he has to find enough evidence in the replays to go against it. However, lately, several calls are being made, both by fans and cricketers, to abolish this rule.
