BCCI mulling over proposal to host entire WIPL 2023 in Mumbai

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently mulling over conducting the entire inaugural edition of the Women's Indian Premier League (WIPL) in Mumbai. 

The decision has not yet been officially announced. But as reported by Cricbuzz, the Indian cricket board is exploring Mumbai as an option to ease logistical challenges.  

Here's what a member of the IPL Governing Council told Cricbuzz on Wednesday ahead of the IPL mini-auction in Kochi:

"That (conducting WIPL in Mumbai) is certainly an option. We have seen how successful the IPL was last year and we are certainly considering the proposal." 

The Board believes that organising the entire tournament in Mumbai would curtail a lot of travel. 

The three venues expected to host the WIPL matches in Mumbai are Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, and DY Patil Stadium.

The inaugural edition of WIPL is tentatively scheduled for March 3 to 26, with the Men's IPL following it from April 1, which will be played in its old home and away format. 

Earlier this year, the entire league stage of the men's IPL was held in Mumbai and Pune, while the playoffs were hosted by Kolkata in Eden Gardens and Ahmedabad in Narendra Modi Stadium.

Given that the 2022 edition of IPL was a great success, the Board has already contacted the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) informally to see if the WIPL can be organised there.
