The PCB has re-appointed Babar Azam as their new captain in white-ball cricket, as confirmed by the board on Sunday. The 29-year-old, who stepped down from the role across all formats after a horrible show in India during the ODI World Cup last year, has got back to his leadership responsibilities, taking the reins from Shaheen Afridi.

There have been plenty of speculations about the removal of Shaheen Afridi from the T20I captaincy duties, as T20 World Cup is not too far away. Ever since Shaheen took the leadership roles in the shortest format, Pakistan, or even his PSL side Lahore Qalandars, had seen disastrous outings one after another.

Now, Pakistan decided not to take any more risks, and hence, they felt bringing Babar back at the helm was the ideal solution as per the situation.

Following unanimous recommendation from the PCB’s selection committee, Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi has appointed Babar Azam as white-ball (ODI and T20I) captain of the Pakistan men's cricket team," PCB said in a statement.

Not to forget, Pakistan did not appoint anyone as ODI captain after the World Cup in India. However, they announced Shan Masood as their new skipper in Tests, and Shaheen as their leader in T20Is. While Masood will continue to lead in red-ball cricket, Shaheen’s stint came to an end in a very short time.
