With just two-odd weeks to go until the upcoming Asia Cup 2022, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will likely announce their squad on Saturday, August 13. Earlier, the board asked for an extension from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) from the set date of August 8.

Injuries to key players and the controversy surrounding Shakib Al Hasan saw the selection committee miss their second deadline of August 11.

According to reports, BCB President Nazmul Hassan was awaiting Shakib's decision, and with him cutting off ties with the betting company, the green light has been signalled.

"We will announce the squad on Saturday afternoon. We will announce the name of the captain and the team on the same day,” - A well-informed BCB source told BDcrictime

Bangladesh yet to appoint a captain

Bangladesh continue to be without a T20I captain, with Nurul Hasan ruled out from the upcoming competition due to injury.

Conversations doing the rounds are that the BCB could hand over reigns to Test skipper Shakib, with their reluctance over former captain Mohammad Mahmudullah.

Apart from Nurul, prolific batter Litton Das and Yasir Ali are also unavailable due to injuries, while One-Day International skipper Tamim Iqbal continues to show disinterest in T20 cricket.
