Ravichandran Ashwin has hit back at former Pakistan cricketer Hasan Raza after the latter accused Team India of employing “cheating” tactics in the ongoing 2023 World Cup. Last week, Raza claimed that the Indian bowlers have been receiving different and suspicious balls from on-field umpires, which subsequently assisted them in dismantling their opponents.

The ex-Pakistan player received widespread criticism from across the cricketing fraternity, with even legendary Pakistan speedster Wasim Akram scathing him for his “absurd comments.”

India’s World Cup 2023 fast bowler Mohammed Shami also lambasted Raza on social media for his baseless accusations, asserting that the latter should at least believe the words of their own legend Wasim Akram.

Following Mohammed Shami’s slam-dunk, his World Cup 2023 teammate Ravichandran Ashwin also joined in the bandwagon to counter Hasan Raza’s latest remarks.

Ashwin shared an archival footage of Wasim Akram, where the legendary Pakistani paceman can be seen swinging with the old ball against New Zealand. The Indian spinner praised Akram for generating staggering seam movement with an older ball, thus indirectly implying that India’s in-form pace attack is more than capable of creating similar swing with the newer one.

In the caption, the Indian spinner wrote:

“So the white ball behaved like this? The ancestors of this current white ball had serious mood swings.”

Interestingly, Hasan Raza has also accused the ICC of favoring World Cup 2023 hosts India, claiming that the apex body has been manipulating technology in close DRS calls.

Regardless, Team India, under Rohit Sharma, steamrolled Sri Lanka and South Africa with emphatic margins in successive games to stretch their unbeaten run to eight matches. Set to finish the league stage at the top of the World Cup 2023 points table, the ‘Men in Blue’ are slated to go up against Netherlands on November 12 in Bengaluru before heading out for the knockouts.
