Former Indian Test captain Ajinkya Rahane will be representing English country, Leicestershire, following the culmination of the West Indies tour next month.

Rahane had signed up with the English county way back in January, and he was supposed to feature in 8 Division 02 Championship fixtures and the entirety of the Royal London One-day Cup.

The Mumbai cricketer was slated to link up with the county immediately after the culmination of the Indian Premier League, but an unexpected call-up to the national Test team following his good performances in the cash-rich league, meant his stint his delayed.

Rahane recently featured in the World Test Championship final against Australia at the Oval, where he emerged as India's leading scorer (89) in the 1st innings.

His performance ensured that he earned the ticket to the Caribbean islands for the forthcoming two-match series against the West Indies, which will take place next month.

"Ajinkya, after the two Tests in the West Indies [scheduled to end on July 24], is supposed to fly directly to England and join Leicestershire for the remainder of the season. He will play the Royal London Cup in August and a possible four county games in September as he is unlikely to be a part of the white-ball scheme of things." said a BCCI source as quoted by PTI.

Following the culmination of the West Indies tour, Rahane will immediately fly to the UK to take part in the championship and Royal London 50-over games.

This will be Rahane's 2nd stint in County cricket. He previously represented Hampshire during the 2019 season.
