On Friday, Cricket West Indies announced a solid 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup on home soil. Swashbuckling middle-order batter Rovman Powell is all set to lead the team, which is studded with outright match-winners.

The presence of plenty of all-rounders is a distinctive feature of the Windies squad. The Men in Maroon could be ruthless with their approach, as they have a deep batting line-up to terrorise the opposition.

So, as we inch closer towards the tournament, let's analyse and find out what could be West Indies' playing XI for the T20 World Cup

The explosive duo of Johnson Charles and Brandon King will open the batting for West Indies, providing solidity as well as dynamism at the top order.

Although the hosts have Shai Hope in their squad, the stylish batter might miss out on selection owing to his sub-par strike rate in the shortest format.

So, swashbuckling southpaw and ex-captain Nicholas Pooran will be slotted at number three, as he has been batting in that position for quite a while.

Pooran will be followed by either Shimron Hetmyer or Sherfane Rutherford at number four. Although Hetmyer is expected to make it into the final XI, Rutherfore could pip the batter, riding on his recent exploits for the national side.

In West Indies' previous two T20I series, Rutherford has amassed 169 runs at an average of 33.8 and a strike rate of 165.68.

More importantly, Rutherford has featured in the Windies' pre-World Cup assignments unlike Hetmyer, which is why we shouldn't be surprised if he gets the first preference for the mega event.

West Indies' lower middle order will be studded with skipper Rovman Powell and the explosive all-round trio of Andre Russell, Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd. Besides chipping in with some overs, these three can contribute handy runs down the order.

Akeal Hosein and Gudakesh Motie will lead the Windies spin bowling unit, with Alzarri Joseph spearheading the pace department alongside Holder, Shepherd and Russell.
