Laura Wolvaardt In, Litchfield Out? Gujarat Giants Women Probable Playing XI Vs RCB-W

Gujarat Giants Women are scheduled to square off with Royal Challengers Women in the fifth fixture of the WPL 2024 season on Tuesday at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

The Giants women are coming off an excruciating defeat against Mumbai Indian Women in its WPL 2024 season opening day a couple of days ago. The team's instability in the batting order was exposed early on as half the side returned to the hut inside in the first 10 overs.

Thus, for the upcoming fixture against RCB, obvious changes are expected in the batting order. South Africa Women's newly minted captain, Laura Wolvaardt, is expected to replace Phoebe Litchfield in the top order. But to yield the best results, Beth Mooney has to place her in the top three.

Besides this, Gujarat Giants are unlikely to make any more changes due to a lack of prolific options. Their bench is filled with inexperienced girls, and introducing them early into the season is a big risk.

Regardless, the Gujarat Giants Women's squad is still capable of competing. Beth Mooney should open with Laura Wolvaardt, with Veda Krishnamurthy and Harleen Doel handling middle-order duties. Ash Gardner is a terrific all-rounder and can cause destruction from both ends of the ball on a given day.

But the inexperience in the bowling unit will once again hurt the Giants women. Sneh Rana, who was, in fact, demoted from leadership duties, remains their frontline bowler. Besides her, Tanuja Kanwar and Meghna Singh, the emerging talents, are Mooney's best bet with the ball.

While the final decision regarding the playing XI rests with the team management, the potential inclusion of Laura Wolvaardt in place of Litchfield could add depth and balance to the Gujarat Giants Women's lineup as they prepare to take on RCB-W in what promises to be an exciting encounter.
